New Government Marriage Initiative Launched in Abu Dhabi
Medeem will help couples in Abu Dhabi plan simpler and more affordable weddings.
Medeem, a new initiative set up by the Department of Community Development (DCD) in Abu Dhabi, is intended to help young couples plan simpler and more affordable weddings. This was launched in response to research indicating that the high costs of weddings is a primary factor leading Emiratis to choose not to marry or to do so later in life.
Medeem, meaning ‘continuity’, is an Emirati phrase used to wish a newly-wed couple a long and prosperous marriage. Specifically designed for citizens of Abu Dhabi, Medeem hopes to facilitate happy and healthy families that contribute to a strong and stable society. The initiative supports Abu Dhabi’s sustainable development goals by encouraging society to move away from the current trend for extravagant weddings. It also preserves the traditions associated with authentic Emirati weddings.
Comprising four key components, the Medeem initiative includes the Medeem Center for Family Flourishing, the Medeem Model for Women’s Weddings, the Medeem Benefits Program, and the Medeem Digital Program. Through these pillars, Medeem seeks to provide comprehensive support and resources to couples who want to get married.
