New Legislation Grants Working Women Four Months of Maternity Leave
Working women are entitled to this maternity leave three times throughout their employment.
The Manpower Committee of the House of Representatives has approved a draft law to amend Egypt’s labour law, granting working women four months of maternity leave. Article 51 of the amended law specifies that this leave encompasses the period before and after childbirth, with a minimum of 45 days of leave required after delivery. A medical certificate indicating the expected date of childbirth must be provided by the worker, and the leave will be paid.
Furthermore, working women are entitled to this maternity leave three times throughout their employment without restrictions based on their duration of service. The committee also approved provisions that prohibit the dismissal of working women during their maternity leave.
