Number of Licensed Foreign Workers Increased by 30% in 2023
Non-Arab Asian nationals represent the largest proportion of foreign workers, followed by Europeans and non-Egyptian Arabs.
The number of foreigners who obtained a work license for the private and investment sector in Egypt increased by 30.2% in 2023, reaching 17,357 licensed workers registered in the year, compared to 13,331 in 2022. Of the 2023 figure, 7,973 of those foreigners were first-time applicants, whilst 9,384 renewed their licenses.
Foreigners of non-Arab Asian nationality represent the largest proportion of foreign workers, making up 36.2% of license holders with 6,275 people, followed by European nationals, who make up 34.4% of the total with 5,975 workers. In third place are foreign workers from Arab countries, at 20.1% (or 3,487 people).
