Ocean Central 2.0 Platform Unveiled to Expand Global Ocean Data Access
The Wave initiative founded by Princess Reema Bandar Al-Saud introduced the upgraded platform ahead of the World Ocean Summit in Montreal.
Wave, an ocean action platform powered by the Future Investment Initiative Institute and founded by Princess Reema Bandar Al-Saud, has launched version 2.0 of its Ocean Central data platform. The updated platform, available at oceancentral.org, expands access to global ocean data and analysis on the impact of human activity on marine environments.
The upgraded version introduces a redesigned interface and new tools aimed at improving how users explore and interpret ocean data. Among the additions is an artificial intelligence-powered assistant designed to guide users through queries and help analyse datasets. The platform also now features a dedicated ocean news section providing English-language summaries of major developments and research related to marine ecosystems.
Princess Reema said the platform’s development supports broader global efforts to protect and restore marine environments.
The enhanced platform is set to be presented at the 13th annual World Ocean Summit, organised by Economist Impact and scheduled to take place in Montreal from March 4th to March 5th. The summit will bring together policymakers, investors and industry leaders from sectors including shipping, energy and tourism to discuss ocean sustainability.
Ocean Central aggregates global benchmarks and environmental commitments, including targets from the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and the Paris Agreement. The platform tracks progress on these commitments while highlighting initiatives, data trends and gaps in ocean research.
