PM: Sphinx Airport Ready for GEM Opening on November 1st
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly toured Sphinx International Airport, calling it a “strategic gateway” for visitors and delegations ahead of the Grand Egyptian Museum’s opening.

During a tour of Sphinx International Airport on September 13th, 2025, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said the facility is ready to welcome thousands of visitors for the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum on November 1st. In a cabinet statement, he described the airport as one of Egypt’s most modern hubs and a “strategic gateway” linking West Cairo, the Pyramids Plateau, and the museum. Madbouly inspected international and domestic halls, passport control, customs areas, and baggage systems, noting their importance for smooth passenger flows. He also toured the presidential and VIP lounge, saying it meets “the highest standards of comfort and services” and reflects Egypt’s cultural stature. Officials reported that electrical work is nearly complete, with 90% of lighting installed, while landscaping and infrastructure outside the terminal are being upgraded. Located 12 kilometers from the Pyramids and the museum, the airport has been expanded to handle 1.2 million passengers annually. Its location west of Cairo provides direct access to major highways, including routes to Alexandria, Fayoum and the North Coast.
