Pedestrians Crossing Highways Will Face New Fines of Up to SAR 2,000

Pedestrians crossing highways will be met with fines ranging from SAR 1,000 to SAR 2,000, according to The General Department of Traffic in Saudi Arabia. The department also highlighted a number of other pedestrian violations, such as crossing roads outside of designated areas, ignoring designated lanes while crossing and ignoring traffic signals, which are punishable with smaller fines between SAR 100 and SAR 150.

These fines hope to discourage pedestrians from putting their lives at risk, and reduce the likelihood of traffic accidents particularly on busy roads.
