Preserving a Cultural Legacy: Egyptian Heritage House Opens in Fustat
The newly established space houses the contents of the Egyptian National Archive for Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The Egyptian Heritage House, a new haven for the country’s rich heritage of historical gems, has just been established within Fustat’s Craft Centre in Old Cairo. The inauguration of the Egyptian Heritage House, in partnership with the regional UNESCO office in Cairo, commemorates two decades since the inception of the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The Egyptian Heritage House holds the contents of the Egyptian National Archive for Intangible Cultural Heritage. The collection includes Arabic calligraphy, Halailliya storytelling, pottery, puppetry, handwoven textiles, and items that highlight the journey of the Holy Family in Egypt.
The opening events showcased traditional crafts like Arabic calligraphy, handwoven textiles, and ceramics. Living heritage displays offered insights into craft-making, while local cuisine and heritage beverages conveyed the essence of Egypt’s cultural legacy.
