Restoration of Cairo’s Historic Azbakeya Garden Nears Completion

Cairo is giving Azbakeya Gardens a major facelift as part of a broader push to revive Khedivial Cairo’s urban legacy.

Once a cultural hub in the heart of the city, the historic garden is being redeveloped to highlight its architectural and literary importance. New kiosks are being constructed along the iconic Azbakeya Wall to house booksellers, preserving the area’s long-standing association with literature and intellectual life.

The plan also involves restoring the facades of surrounding heritage buildings, regulating signage, and removing visual clutter. The project reflects Egypt’s commitment to restoring the capital’s historic identity.
