Saint Catherine’s ‘Great Transfiguration’ Project 90% Completed
The South Sinai project looks to boost tourism with new hotels, visitor centres and improved infrastructure.
The Great Transfiguration project in Saint Catherine, South Sinai is nearing completion, with 90% of the planned developments finished.
The region’s historical and spiritual significance, particularly as the site where God manifested to Prophet Moses, makes it a key attraction for tourists interested in religious and cultural heritage. The main goal of the initiative is to transform the region into a tourism destination by improving infrastructure and enhancing the visitor experience.
The project includes the construction of a new mountain hotel, a visitor centre, Peace Square, and a residential district in Al-Zaytouna. Significant infrastructure upgrades are underway, including road expansions, utility network modernisation and the development of Saint Catherine International Airport. These enhancements are designed to accommodate an expected influx of tourists and leverage the area's unique attractions.
Additionally, the government is focused on educating visitors about the site’s importance, ensuring that the region’s spiritual status is respected across the three Abrahamic religions. Preparations for an official inauguration are currently underway.
