Saltwater Lakes Appear in Al Minya's Bahnasa Village
Following tests conducted by the relevant authorities, specialists determined that the pools were caused by natural geological leaks containing extremely high levels of salinity.

Authorities in the Minya Governorate have confirmed the appearance of several pools of highly saline water in the Bahnasa area, west of Beni Mazar, within the Western Desert hinterland. Farmers initially reported the formation of lake-like bodies of water unsuitable for agriculture, livestock, or human consumption.
Following tests conducted by the relevant authorities, specialists determined that the pools were caused by natural geological leaks containing extremely high levels of salinity. Officials stressed that the water poses no environmental danger but remains entirely unfit for any form of use.
Major General Emad Kadwani, Governor of Minya, stated that the situation is being monitored closely in coordination with environmental and geological agencies. He urged residents to avoid approaching or handling the water for safety reasons.
Local authorities reported that a young man drowned in one of the pools after slipping into the water. His body was recovered by river rescue teams and transferred to Beni Mazar Central Hospital.
The Minya Governorate has assured residents that the situation is under control and continues to advise against any interaction with the newly formed pools.
