Saudi Adventurer Begins 600 KM Trek Across the Empty Quarter
The expedition, supported by a logistics team, is expected to last 18 days and will showcase the region's rugged beauty.
Saudi adventurer Badr Al-Shaibani is set to cross the Rub Al-Khali - the world’s largest continuous sand desert, also known as the Empty Quarter - on foot. The 600-kilometre expedition, beginning Sunday from the Umm Hadid mining site in Saudi Arabia’s Afif region, will span the 650,000-square-kilometre desert from south to northeast.
Supported by a logistics team, Al-Shaibani aims to document the region’s natural and cultural landmarks over 18 days, while inspiring Saudi youth to embrace challenges and explore new horizons through outdoor adventures.
An experienced explorer, Al-Shaibani has previously completed the Seven Summits challenge, journeyed to the South Pole, and retraced the migration route of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
