Saudi Centre for Science & Tech to Establish New Eco-Research Facility
The centre will use artificial intelligence and advanced technologies to research solar energy technologies, energy storage, and innovative materials for desalination membranes.
King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) in Riyadh has signed a deal with ACWA Power to establish a research centre for clean energy and desalination technologies within the existing science and technology hub. The centre will leverage artificial intelligence and advanced digital technologies to carry out research focussed particularly on development of solar energy technologies, energy storage, and innovative materials for desalination membranes.
The partnership between KACST and ACWA Power - a major developer, investor, co-owner and operator of power generation, renewable energy and desalinated water production plants - aims to encourage collaboration and innovation between the academic community and the business sector.
Plans for the new Centre for the Development of Clean Energy Technologies and Water Desalination demonstrate Saudi Arabia’s push toward advancing eco-friendly energy and water desalination technologies in the region, one of a plethora of advancements that fall under the umbrella of the country’s Vision 2030 goals.
