The Saudi Heritage Commission has announced the registration of 1,516 new archaeological sites in the country’s National Antiquities Register, bringing the total number of documented sites in Saudi Arabia to 11,577.
The newly added sites span multiple regions: Riyadh leads with 1,174, followed by Al Baha with 184, Tabuk with 85, Northern Borders with 70, and 3 sites in Jeddah.
These updates come in the wake of recent high-profile archaeological discoveries, including life-sized rock engravings in the Al Nafud Desert aged between 11,400 and 12,800 years and the identification of an ancient settlement in Wadi Damm, Masiyon dating back over 10,000 years.
