Seafood Exports From Egypt to Europe Resumed After Three-Year Hiatus
The resumption follows the implementation of a monitoring system, ensuring quality control from source to market.
The National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) has officially announced the reopening of fish exports to countries in the European Union after a three-year suspension, following its successful compliance with EU regulations.
The reopening followed the NFSA’s efforts to address recommendations made by the European Commission during a 2021 inspection. By June 2023, the NFSA had met all EU requirements, leading to a positive review during a subsequent visit in May and June 2024. The NSFA also implemented a comprehensive monitoring system for fish products, ensuring quality control from source to market.
According to the NFSA, this move would strengthen Egypt’s food industry exports, and encourage small- and medium-sized businesses to explore new opportunities. This approval would also support Egypt’s food security goals, ensuring the sustainability of marine fisheries and preserving fish stocks.
