Sharjah Ruler Unveils 44 Volume Arabic Encyclopedia at Book Fair 2025
The multi phase reference will cover sciences literature arts media and biographies across four stages concluding in November 2028 at the 44th Sharjah International Book Fair.
His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, unveiled the first phase of the Comprehensive Arabic Encyclopedia at the 44th Sharjah International Book Fair. The release includes 44 volumes covering sciences, literature, arts, and notable figures, as part of a four-stage project to conclude in 2028.
Sheikh Sultan described the development as “a great cultural and scientific achievement,” stating: “We bring you glad cultural tidings — the completion of the first phase of the Comprehensive Arab Encyclopedia in sciences, literature, arts and notable figures, consisting of 44 volumes.” He outlined the timeline for the remaining phases: a humanities-focused second phase featuring prominent poets, linguists, interpreters, and hadith scholars to be completed in November 2026, followed by the third phase in November 2027, and the fourth and final phase in November 2028. Once complete, the work is intended to serve as a verified reference across disciplines, including terminology and biographical entries.
At the ceremony, Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of the Sharjah Book Authority, said the fair has maintained its ranking as the world’s leading book fair for the fifth consecutive year. Hosting 2,350 publishers and 250 authors from 66 countries, the event features over 1,200 cultural and artistic activities. Sheikh Sultan also marked 100 years since Sharjah’s first library opened in 1925.
