Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Launches 'Plant the Emirates' Project
Sheikh Mohammed has unveiled a new agricultural project to enhance food security for increased production and sustainability.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid announced the ‘Plant the Emirates’ project to nurture the UAE's agriculture sector and address food security challenges.
Central to this initiative is the establishment of a national agriculture centre dedicated to supporting and developing local farming practices. Sheikh Mohammed emphasised the project’s goal of fostering a culture of agriculture across generations, ensuring sustainable practices are embraced in schools and homes alike.
The project outlines ambitious targets over the next five years, including a 20% increase in overall farm production, a 25% rise in organic farms, and a 30% adoption rate of climate-smart practices. Additional goals include reducing agricultural waste by 50%.
Furthermore, the initiative encourages local communities to engage in home gardening, contributing to the nation’s green spaces. The program will also feature national campaigns and events to showcase and market local agricultural products.
The project will focus on leveraging innovative technologies, such as drones and artificial intelligence, to enhance sustainability and reduce the carbon footprint of agriculture.
