Smart Water Taxis to Ferry People from Abu Dhabi to Nearby Islands
The new driverless water taxis aim to offer secure and efficient city-to-island passenger transport.
Abu Dhabi’s Technology Innovation Institute (TII), Aspire and Maqta Gateway have recently signed an agreement to introduce new autonomous water taxis to ferry people from Abu Dhabi’s mainland to nearby islands.
The agreement aims to provide innovative AI-powered solutions to address Abu Dhabi Ports’ maritime infrastructural challenges. The new driverless water taxis will offer secure and efficient city-to-island passenger transport, reducing operational and maintenance costs while minimising the need for human crews compared to traditional ferries.
Through new technologies such as AI algorithms, these driverless water taxis are set to provide 24/7 on-demand transportation. However, transportation schedules will be adjusted in real-time based on traffic and weather conditions.
