Supreme Council for Media Regulation Bans Unapproved Drug Ads
Violators, including social media platforms promoting unlicensed, smuggled or unsafe products, will face legal action.
The Supreme Council for Media Regulation and the Egyptian Drug Authority have announced new measures to address the growing issue of misleading pharmaceutical advertisements.
Stricter regulations have been issued, with advertisers now requiring prior approval for the publication or broadcast of medicine and pharmaceutical ads. Violators, including social media platforms promoting unlicensed, smuggled or unsafe products, will face legal action.
The authority also highlighted key initiatives to strengthen pharmaceutical regulation. A drug traceability system was recently introduced to monitor medicines from its production to its sale to the consumer, in order to combat counterfeiting and smuggling. Additionally, the Dawana project was unveiled, offering a comprehensive system to track narcotics and psychotropic substances.
