Temporary Land Corridor Reroutes Dubai Cargo via Oman
The corridor covers sea and air cargo handled in Dubai, including free zones and local exports, with inspections at Hatta and Al Wajajah and deposit waivers in defined cases.
A temporary land corridor has been activated to reroute cargo from Dubai through Oman, enabling shipments to continue reaching global destinations amid disruption to sea and air routes across the Gulf.
The initiative was implemented by Dubai Customs in coordination with the Directorate General of Customs Oman, using the Hatta border crossing as a key transit point.
Under the framework, cargo arriving in Dubai, including shipments from free zones, can be transported overland via Oman before being shipped internationally through Omani ports and airports. The system applies to both sea cargo routed from Dubai ports to Omani seaports and air cargo transferred by land to Oman’s airports for onward distribution. Exports originating in Dubai’s local market are also included.
Shipments are moved in sealed containers using approved trucks under customs supervision, with inspections carried out at the Hatta crossing and at Al Wajajah border crossing.
Operations are restricted to authorised bonded operators, including DP World and its logistics arm for sea cargo, and dnata for air cargo.
To speed up transit, authorities have waived cash deposit requirements in certain cases, replacing them with letters of guarantee for shipments handled by approved operators. Exports originating within Dubai are exempt from deposit or guarantee requirements.
