UAE Establishes Space Council to Drive National Space Sector Growth
The Supreme Space Council will be chaired by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The UAE Cabinet has approved the formation of the Supreme Space Council, a new permanent body designed to oversee and advance the country’s national space sector. The council, which will report directly to the Cabinet, will be chaired by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The Supreme Space Council will be responsible for setting national priorities within the space sector, with a focus on achieving technological independence. It will also regulate space-related activities, both public and private, while establishing investment priorities to drive innovation in the industry. The council's remit extends to space security, infrastructure management and fostering partnerships with international entities, all aimed at strengthening the UAE's growing presence in space exploration.
The UAE Space Agency will function as the General Secretariat for the council, offering technical and administrative support. The council will include high-ranking officials from various ministries, along with industry experts and advisors, ensuring a comprehensive and strategic approach to developing the country’s space sector.
