UAE’s First High Purity Carbon Capture Plant Opens in Ras Al Khaimah
RAK Ceramics and Gulf Cryo will capture about 17,000 tonnes a year and supply high purity carbon dioxide to local industries.

A carbon capture and utilisation plant has commenced operations in Ras Al Khaimah, marking the first facility of its kind in the UAE dedicated to producing high-purity carbon dioxide from industrial emissions.
The facility is designed to capture approximately 17,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually. Emissions collected from the natural-gas engines of a local ceramics manufacturer are purified by regional gases company Gulf Cryo into 99.99 percent pure CO₂, which is then distributed to sectors including food and beverage, healthcare, and agriculture.
A partnership between Gulf Cryo and RAK Ceramics delivered the plant, which removes the need to import recovered CO₂ from other countries. The project aligns with national efforts to cut industrial emissions and expand decarbonisation solutions across the UAE.
