UNIDO Launches 23 Green Projects Worth $58 Million in Egypt

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) announced the launch of 23 projects in Egypt, totaling USD 58 million in funding to enhance energy efficiency and promote green initiatives across various local industries.

A recent meeting led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel Al-Wazir and UNIDO Regional Representative Patrick Gilabert focused on how to provide technical support to industrial facilities throughout the country. Funding sources include contributions from the European Union and governments of Japan, Switzerland and Italy.

The projects under discussion include renewable energy, wastewater treatment for industrial and municipal use, seawater desalination, and the production of desalination and water pumping motors. The government’s goal is to attract foreign investment to satisfy local demand while also positioning for exports to international markets.

The UNIDO team also presented ongoing efforts to improve energy efficiency in key sectors like fertilizer and steel production, featuring capacity-building programs in partnership with the Industrial Modernization Center. Among the initiatives are the Green City project, designed to reduce energy consumption in tourist areas, and the Inclusive Green Growth project, which has assisted 140 small projects in Upper Egypt focusing on food production and solar panel installation.
