USD 133 Million Spent on Maintenance of Over 6,000 Mosques

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has revealed the completion of maintenance, cleaning, restoration, or furnishing of 6,153 mosques so far in 2024, totalling an investment of approximately SAR 500 million (USD 133 million).

The majority of projects - approximately 5,300 - were focussed on mosque maintenance, costing a total of SAR 362 million. However, the installation of modernised air conditioning systems at Miqat Al-Juhfah, Al-Taneem and Al-Mash’ar Al-Haram Mosques came at a cost of SAR 15 million, while the restoration of three other mosques cost SAR 13.5 million.

The ministry also implemented glass partition projects at 683 mosques in order to improve energy efficiency. This refurbishment has resulted in a 60% reduction in energy consumption.

A further 66 mosques were furnished at a cost of SAR 6.8 million, and the ministry has allocated SAR 30 million for the future maintenance of four significant buildings.
