Unity Cup Sets the Stage For Egypt's First Inclusive Sports Tournament
Egypt’s first inclusive sports tournament features 20 corporate teams competing in Goalball and Pan-Disability y toFootball to promote diversity and inclusion on November 29th.
The Unity Cup is making history as Egypt’s first inclusive sports tournament, bringing together corporate teams from across the country to champion diversity and inclusion in the workplace on November 29th.
Organised by Helm Consulting in partnership with Play Sports, and held under the auspices of Egypt's Ministry of Social Solidarity, the Ministry of Local Development, and strategic partner Vodafone, the event is aimed at breaking down barriers in corporate environments by using sports as a medium for social change.
The Unity Cup developed as a platform where employees across industries - including technology, telecommunications, banking, FMCG and others - come together to compete in Goalball and Pan-Disability Football. The mission is to remove social barriers within the workplace, empower individuals with disabilities, and help organisations strengthen their inclusion strategies.
The concept of the Unity Cup emerged from Helm Consulting’s vision to use the power of sports to address and overcome workplace barriers that often exist for persons with disabilities. Helm partnered with Play Sports to design an event where all employees can participate in sports together.
Beyond the competition itself, the Unity Cup also includes a series of preparatory training sessions aimed at enhancing inclusion efforts among the participating companies. These training sessions will be held at the Olympic Stadium in the lead-up to the tournament, and will cover key topics such as disability equality training and strategies for creating more inclusive workplace cultures. The Unity Cup will also host an online global panel discussion aimed at HR and marketing leaders, offering insights into how companies can better support diversity and inclusion.
The Unity Cup is attracting companies from various sectors that recognize the value of promoting diversity and inclusion as part of their corporate social responsibility efforts. Participating companies will also gain access to valuable networking opportunities with over 30 hiring companies, fostering connections that may lead to career opportunities for persons with disabilities.
The initiative also aims to expand beyond Egypt in the coming years, with plans to host regional tournaments across the Middle East and Africa, and eventually scale to a global level. To attend the event, you can register at the Unity Cup website.
