West Mena Gas Field Targets First Production by End of 2026
The Mediterranean project forms part of a broader offshore drilling and exploration programme led with international partners.
First gas production from the West Mena Gas Field is expected by the end of 2026 as development work progresses in the Mediterranean Sea, according to the Egyptian Cabinet Media Centre.
The project forms part of a wider offshore development programme led by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and supported by international energy companies, including Shell, which maintains a portfolio of investments in Egypt’s gas sector.
Current activity in the Mediterranean includes drilling new wells, advancing the development phase of the West Mena field and conducting exploration operations in promising zones within the West Delta Deep Area.
Authorities said that 2026 will also see the implementation of one of the largest gas well drilling programmes in the Mediterranean, undertaken in cooperation with major international energy companies.
The programme is intended to increase domestic production, strengthen energy security and help meet demand in the local market.
Offshore operations are currently proceeding along two main tracks: progressing development work at the West Mena field while simultaneously conducting exploration in designated zones within the West Delta Deep area.
