Work Begins on Red Sea Museum in Jeddah

Construction has begun on the new Red Sea Museum in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Set to be hosted in Jeddah’s historic Bab Al-Bunt heritage building, the museum will emphasise Jeddah’s central place in Saudi history as a gateway into the Kingdom for pilgrims, merchants and tourists.

Being created under the auspices of Saudi’s Ministry of Culture, the museum is set to exhibit numerous manuscripts, rare collections, books and art focusing on the centuries-old history of the Hegaz, its centrality to the Hajj and Umrah rites in the cities of Makkah and Madinah, as well as its maritime, trade and geological heritage.

Set to be home to over 100 permanent artworks, the museum will hold four temporary exhibitions annually.
