Dubai’s New Bridge to Improve Traffic Flow on Sheikh Rashid Road
The bridge spans 605 metres, and connects Al Mina Street with Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has inaugurated a new two-lane bridge on Sheikh Rashid Road as part of the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project's fourth phase. The bridge spans 605 metres, accommodates up to 3,200 vehicles per hour, and connects Al Mina Street with Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street.
Phase 4 of the project involves the construction of four bridges totaling 3.1 kilometres, with a combined capacity of 19,400 vehicles per hour. One of these, a 1,335-metre bridge opened in December 2024, features three lanes and supports 4,800 vehicles per hour, easing traffic from Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street to Al Mina Street and the Falcon Intersection.
Upcoming additions include a 1,210-metre, three-lane bridge facilitating traffic from Al Mina Street to Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street, and a 780-metre, three-lane bridge aiding traffic from Al Mina Street to Al Wasl Road, both scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2025. A 985-metre, two-lane bridge linking Jumeirah Street to Al Mina Street and the Falcon Intersection is expected to be finished by the third quarter of 2025.
Phase 4 also encompasses 4.8 kilometres of road development and upgrades to intersections on Jumeirah Street, Al Mina Street, and Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street. Enhancements include pedestrian bridges, improved lighting and traffic systems, rainwater drainage, and irrigation networks.
The Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project spans 13 kilometers and integrates key roads such as Sheikh Rashid Road, Al Mina Street, Al Khaleej Street, and Cairo Street. By 2030, the project is expected to benefit one million residents, significantly reducing travel time from 104 minutes to just 16 minutes while improving road safety. Cost savings from reduced travel times are estimated at AED 45 billion over the next two decades.
In addition to the Sheikh Rashid Road bridge, a separate two-lane, 1,000-meter bridge was opened in December 2024 to improve traffic flow from Hessa Street to Al Khail Road, cutting travel time from 15 minutes to just 3 minutes. These developments reflect Dubai’s commitment to advancing infrastructure to meet the demands of its growing population and economy.
