Zayed National Museum to Honour Emirati Women Across History
A year-long initiative gathered accounts from various regions to shed light on these women’s historical contributions.
The Zayed National Museum in Abu Dhabi is set to spotlight the pivotal role of Emirati women in the history and development of the UAE, drawing on firsthand testimonies collected from across the country. This year-long initiative gathered accounts from various regions, including Al Ain, Fujairah, and Ras Al Khaimah.
Historically, Emirati women have played a crucial role in maintaining the well-being of their communities, especially during times when men were away for long periods on pearl diving and trade missions. The museum will delve into how different geographical landscapes, like coastal and mountainous areas, influenced the cultural and social fabric of historical Emirati societies.
Additionally, the museum will focus on the efforts of the UAE's Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in uniting diverse communities to form the UAE federation in 1971, using common values and heritage as the foundation.
To foster community engagement, the museum has initiated outreach programs targeting Emirati senior citizens and people of determination, aiming to incorporate their perspectives into the museum’s curation. A permanent program is being developed specifically for people of determination, with contributions from families, educators, and curators to ensure inclusive experiences for all visitors.
