Crave's Ramadan Specials Have Caused a Culinary Frenzy in Cairo

There is a specific kind of heartbreak that comes with ‘Limited Edition’ labels: the realisation that your new favourite dish has an expiry date. This Ramadan, Crave sparked a frenzy with a seasonal menu that has left Cairo’s culinary aficionados wondering how they’ll ever go back to the regular menu.

From the first week of the holy month, the feedback across all Crave branches has been loud and clear: these dishes are simply too good to be temporary.

The star of the show has undoubtedly been the Moroccan Spiced Chicken. It’s a dish that balances comfort with complexity, serving up creamy, slow-cooked, marinated chicken with ginger, onions and pickled green olives. Served alongside saffron rice topped with a crunch of nuts and raisins, it has become nothing short of a cult favourite. In fact, there have been murmurings of a petition, with repeat customers requesting - and in some cases, even demanding - that Crave’s Moroccan masterpiece earns a permanent spot on the main menu. This obsession doesn't end with the savoury. The Pistachio Baklava has stirred similar sentiment - which is even more impressive considering it has captured the imagination of diners in a month saturated with traditional sweets. Crave’s version, however, is an architectural feat of 14 layers of filo pastry, packed with crushed pistachios and lightly soaked in an aromatic syrup that isn't overly sweet. It’s proven to be such a hit, that eaters (probably the same ones behind the petition) have started making suggestions to serve it alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream. While those two are the headliners, the rest of the Ramadan specials have been equally impressive. The Beef Fatteh offers a sophisticated spin on an Egyptian classic, elevated by a secret, signature tomato sauce and served with baladi bread and crispy bites. For those seeking something truly indulgent, the Mezamar Freekeh with Roasted Duck has been a revelation, offering oven-baked layers of cream, finished with a topping of crispy match-stick fries. These limited-edition dishes are currently available across all Crave branches - however, with the end of Ramadan approaching, the window is closing.
