Kyoto Matcha Bar is Egypt’s First Ever Dedicated Matcha Destination
Nestled inside Maadi’s Genco, Kyoto Matcha Bar is taking the beloved brew to brand new heights.
If you’ve been alive any time this summer – which, assuming you’re reading this, you have been – you’ve probably witnessed the ongoing craze around matcha; specifically, coconut matcha. While there have been plenty of places offering this sip of the season (along with its endless variations), there hasn’t been a space solely dedicated to matcha – until now, with the grand entrance of Kyoto Matcha Bar.
Brought to life by the founders of Maadi’s cosy hideaway Genco, Kyoto Matcha Bar is tucked inside its sister site and fully dedicated to all things matcha. What makes it special? Founder Samer El Tallawi shares, “We’ve always been deeply inspired by Japanese culture, and through our exploration, we discovered just how sacred matcha is to their tradition... no one has taken the leap to establish a bar exclusively for it—until now.” Sourcing their matcha directly from one of Japan’s oldest family-run factories, Kyoto Matcha Bar prides itself on offering the real deal.
Their menu is thoughtfully curated to offer something for everyone, from matcha purists to those just dipping their toes into the green tea craze. “Our personal favourites include the Sweet Matcha and Salted Caramel Matcha,” El Tallawi tells SceneEats, noting that they’ve even created the 'Slingshot,' a pure shot of matcha, bold and unadulterated. For a balanced experience, the Matcha Short, a riff on the cortado, is also on the list, as well as a ‘coco matcha’ made with coconut water in case you lack the affinity for milk.
Whether you’re a matcha aficionado or new to the game, Kyoto Matcha Bar invites you to “experience the true essence of matcha.”
But if getting dressed and heading to Maadi sounds like too much on a busy day, you’ll be pleased to hear you can get your matcha straight from the Botit app (available on iOS and Android) with instant delivery.
