Egyptian Film ‘Alone’ Selected for Berlin’s Female Filmmakers Festival
Directed by Mona Daoud, ‘Alone’ follows an older woman living with dementia and the caregiver navigating grief alongside her.
Egyptian short film ‘Alone’ has been officially selected for Berlin’s Female Filmmakers Festival, continuing an international festival run that has so far included eight selections and three awards.
Directed by Mona Daoud, the film follows Mady, an older woman living with dementia who believes her daughters have abandoned her while refusing to acknowledge her condition. Alongside her is her caregiver, who tends to Mady while carrying grief of her own.
‘Alone’ was written by Shahira Galal and Mona Daoud, and stars Karima Mansour and Latifa Fahmy.
The short is one of five films developed through the HerStory Films Incubator, which supports female filmmakers and the development of women-led film projects.
Its Berlin selection adds another stop to the film’s growing festival circuit, following appearances at events around the world and three award wins to date.
