‘Safah El Tagamoa’ Director: The Film Has Not Yet Returned to Cinemas

Following circulating reports about the return of ‘Safah El Tagamoa’ to cinemas after its removal by the censorship board, CairoScene reached out to the film’s director and writer, Mohamed Salah El Azab, who confirmed that the film has not yet resumed screenings.

In exclusive statements to CairoScene, El Azab said the Censorship Authority is still reviewing the matter, adding that he expects a response later tonight, March 24th.

The serial killer film was pulled from theatres after the Censorship Board for Artistic Works revoked its screening licence just hours after its release.

In its official statement, the board said the decision followed a review that identified discrepancies between the version submitted for approval and the final cut shown in cinemas. Authorities noted that certain scenes, including depictions of violence, did not comply with licensing conditions.

The film stars Ahmed El Fishawy and is based on the real-life story of a serial killer known as ‘Safah El Tagamoa’ and was arrested in 2024.
