Homegrown AK Interior Scapes Weaves Nature Into Every Design
Established in 2016, AK Interior offers a diverse portfolio that includes design, implementation and furniture supply.
Amidst Cairo's vibrant interior design scene, emerging firm AK Interior Scapes offers clients a delightful mélange of minimal charm and refined modernism across a diverse array of projects.
Founded in 2016 by Asmaa Khedr, AK Interior Scapes aims to turn clients' wishes into reality by translating their thoughts into meaningful concepts. The team manages the entire process, from initial design to implementation, paying careful attention to every detail along the way.
From cosy, elegant homes to American-Egyptian fusion restaurants, the studio’s portfolio continues to grow with a focus on consistently using locally manufactured furniture and natural materials. Beyond design, they have established themselves as a trusted furniture supplier, offering customised art works, furniture and lighting as an integral feature to their services.
In their latest project, Aziz, a restaurant specialising in authentic Egyptian cuisine, AK Interior Scapes sought to create a warm, rustic charm that would enhance and complement the dining experience. They incorporated cane wooden partitions to evoke a sense of imperfect natural charm, which was further augmented by an eight-ton camphor tree used for tabletops.
“For the small pine wood tables, we applied patina and cérused techniques to intentionally roughen the wooden surface, adding more texture and depth to the overall design,” Asmaa Khedr, co-founder of AK Interior Scapes, tells SceneHome.
Meanwhile, the leather couches and chairs elevated the American essence, introducing a sleek touch to balance the overall raw aesthetic.
"This project was a significant milestone, as we successfully delivered 17 large tables and 20 small tables in just three weeks," Asmaa Khedr says.
In a separate context, within a private residence in Mivida, the owners desired a minimal design that blended various shades of light and dark colours. AK's primary concern was to ensure that the home remained warm and inviting while meeting the clients' needs.
Bearing this in mind, they opted to use a variety of natural materials, ranging from oak wood to marble for the tabletops. The geometries throughout the house were designed to be fluid, avoiding any rigid edges to maintain an overall sense of softness and smoothness.
“We faced the challenge of creating a kitchen that could seamlessly transition between an open American-style layout and a fully enclosed, private space. Conquering this required not only innovative architectural adjustments but also precise intervention during the finishing process, ensuring both functionality and aesthetic appeal,” Asmaa Khedr explains.
In the nine years since its founding, AK Interior Scapes have designed, completed and furnished numerous projects, showcasing their commitment to the field. While persistently maintaining their unique identity, they continue to focus on satisfying their diverse clientele, working to consistently go the extra mile.
