IB School in Egypt Opens 22 Scholarships for Displaced Students

As the ongoing Israel–US war on Iran impacts families across the region, the Evolution International School (EVO) in New Giza has announced 22 scholarships for displaced international students, covering 50% of tuition fees. Applications are open to students aged three to Grade 10 who have never enrolled in an Egyptian school and do not hold an Egyptian passport.

“While this scholarship is open to students from any country, it began as a response to the conflicts in Sudan, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon and Libya, and now the war in Iran,” EVO Director Andy Dailey said. “In a region that has seen significant instability in recent years, Egypt has welcomed many families fleeing conflict, so we’ve been thinking about how to support those students within our school.”

EVO created this scholarship as part of a broader response to regional conflicts. In March, the umbrella IB organisation announced measures to ease academic pressure on students and teachers in countries affected by war, including Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

These measures include extended coursework deadlines, the option to transfer registration to another IB World School, defer May exams, or withdraw from the May session altogether. In cases where exams cannot be conducted safely, students may be exempt from final exams.

“One way we can respond as a school is by supporting students who need access to education,” Dailey added. “At the same time, we are diversifying our school community. We know that a diverse environment, with many perspectives, is beneficial for our students.”

The school also previously raised funds and supplies for hospitals in Gaza through the Egyptian Red Crescent Society, and has hosted on-campus activities for displaced Palestinian mothers and their children. EVO has also already enrolled students who have been displaced by conflict.

To apply for the EVO International Student Scholarship, follow the application link or visit the school’s official website. Applicants must be legal residents of Egypt.
