'Siwa Speaks Green' is Cutting Down on Single-Use Plastics in Matrouh

Looking to clean up Matrouh’s most famous oasis, the Ministry of Environment has launched the ‘Siwa Speaks Green’ initiative to raise awareness on the importance of eliminating single-use plastics and replace them with more sustainable paper bag alternatives. Siwa is hoping to follow in the footsteps of the Red Sea governorate, which implemented the decision to ban single-use plastics back in 2019.

The initiative is starting off in the village of Jara Um Al-Saghir, where it has recruited 150 young people to distribute 1,000 paper bags to shops, and teach them how to use paper and cloth materials instead of plastic bags, all while educating them on the necessity of recycling waste.

They’re not ending there - ‘Siwa Speaks Green’ will make sure the message reaches Siwa’s children through art, theatre, animated films, magazines, and puppet shows.
