Where to Volunteer to Support Displaced Palestinians in Egypt

After nearly two years of Israel's genocidal war in Gaza, thousands of Palestinians have been displaced, with many now residing in Egypt and facing the challenges of rebuilding their lives far from home. Across Cairo and other cities, community initiatives and local organisations are working to provide essential support — from food and shelter to education and mental health services. This list gathers some of the key initiatives where you can volunteer your time or contribute resources to directly assist displaced Palestinians in Egypt, helping ensure they receive sustained, practical support as they navigate displacement and recovery...

Ahfad AlZaytoun

Ahfad Al-Zaytoun is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation built to offer a trauma-informed community and learning centre for Palestinian children in Cairo. It is led by experienced teachers and psychologists specialising in the psychology of children with disabilities, the initiative hopes to offer the children the support they need for recovery. Certified psychologists and teachers can volunteer.

Safe Grow

Designed with teaching man to fish in mind, Safe Grow creates windows for lasting financial security for displaced Palestinians. They offer job opportunities, career consultancy and business funding for people looking to build sustainable sources of income through three main channels: building small businesses, connecting freelancers to employers, and reviving existing projects and entrepreneurs through mentorship. Career consultants can volunteer.

Abwab ElKheir

Since the beginning of the war, Abwab ElKheir has contributed to supporting countless displaced families and students in Egypt. They continue to accept donations, but they also accept volunteers to help with package, distribution and organisation.

Network for Palestine

Network for Palestine offers a variety of volunteer opportunities to help displaced Palestinians in Egypt, for every skillset, besides donations and sponsorships. Volunteer work can be in the form of organising donations, fundraising, event supports at their bazaars and other events, educational support, social media management, and social work. Real estate experts and doctors can also provide housing and medical support respectively.

PalPsych Line

PalPsych Line works to provide psychological consultations to displaced Palestinians and aid workers in Cairo, entirely free of charge. They currently have a team of over 30 specialists, but they continue to have room to grow. Specialised psychologists can volunteer, as well as unspecialised volunteers willing to undergo training.

Olive You Hub

Functioning as both a physical space and an online resource, Olive You Hub welcomes volunteers of all sorts. Volunteers can fundraise and become an ambassador for the Hub, sell Palestinian products in various cities to support creators, write grant applications, manage social media or take professional videos. Olive You Hub also welcomes community program facilitators and workshop instructors who can provide enriching experiences within the community, to facilitate education and skill-building for various ages. If you have a skill that’s not mentioned, but that you feel like could help, you could still apply to be a volunteer.

Mersal

Mersal, a charitable NGO, collects donations for displaced Palestinians in Egypt, but they can also receive help in the form of volunteer work in packaging, distribution and general logistical organisation.
