15 Health Measures Issued for UAE Pilgrims Ahead of Hajj
The advisory outlines requirements for immunisation, travel readiness, and protection against heat and infection during Hajj.
A 15-point health guide has been issued for residents travelling from the UAE to perform Hajj, outlining vaccination requirements, medical preparation, and safety measures during the pilgrimage.
The guidance was released by the Ministry of Health and Prevention and places particular emphasis on the meningococcal vaccine covering all strains. The vaccine must be administered at least 10 days before departure and within the past five years, with all doses recorded on the International Vaccination Card. An updated seasonal influenza vaccine for 2025–2026 is also advised.
Before travel, pilgrims are advised to undergo a medical check-up to confirm fitness, particularly for individuals with chronic conditions who may require adjustments to medication. Travellers are encouraged to carry sufficient quantities of prescribed medication in original packaging and prepare a medical report detailing conditions, treatments, and dosages.
The advisory also recommends preparing a first aid kit with essential items such as disinfectants, fever medication, masks, and basic care supplies, alongside a personal care kit that includes items to manage heat exposure and maintain hygiene.
During Hajj, the guidance calls for careful food selection, ensuring meals are properly prepared, and maintaining strict hygiene practices, including regular handwashing and avoiding the sharing of personal items. Pilgrims are also advised to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and take rest breaks to reduce the risk of heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
