5 Key Takeaways from Spotify’s 2025 ‘Loud & Clear’ Report

Spotify has released its annual Loud & Clear music economics report, providing a data-driven breakdown of how streaming royalties flow through Egypt’s music industry. The 2025 edition outlines where streaming revenue is actually coming from, who is earning it, and how local sounds are finding audiences across global borders.

The main takeaway from the numbers is a steady rise in earnings. Egyptian artists on Spotify saw their total royalties jump by 35% in 2025 compared to the previous year. This builds on a rapid growth period between 2022 and 2024, when payouts on the platform more than quintupled. Globally, Spotify distributed over USD 11 billion to rights holders in 2025 alone, pushing its all-time cumulative payout close to USD 70 billion.

A major force driving these figures in Egypt is the independent scene. Rather than being dominated entirely by legacy labels, more than two-thirds of all royalties generated by Egyptian musicians on Spotify went to independent artists and self-released creators. This shift aligns with the massive growth of youth-driven genres, where sounds like Egyptian hip-hop, Arabic hip-hop, electronic music, and shaabi continue to bring in some of the fastest-growing streaming revenues.

The data also points to a clear split between what Egyptians listen to at home and where artists make their money. On domestic soil, local talent dominates: Egyptian tracks made up over 86% of Spotify Egypt’s Daily Top 50 chart throughout 2025. Yet, local plays account for only a small portion of actual revenue. A massive 85% of all royalties earned by Egyptian artists came from listeners outside of Egypt, led primarily by listeners in the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and the Netherlands.

That international reach is constantly expanding through platform recommendations and playlisting. In 2025, Egyptian artists recorded over 549 million first-time listener discoveries on Spotify - a 12% increase from 2024. Together, these figures show a scene that remains deeply rooted in local culture while building a sustainable, export-heavy economy on the global stage.
