AED 750 Million Road Projects to Add New Sharjah-Dubai Links
A tunnel at Al Taawun Roundabout is expected to ease congestion between the two emirates.
A package of road projects valued at AED 750 million will add new links between Sharjah and Dubai, including a tunnel beneath Al Taawun Roundabout aimed at improving traffic flow between the neighbouring emirates.
The tunnel is intended to reduce pressure on one of the busiest junctions connecting Sharjah and Dubai, while providing direct access from Al Taawun Roundabout to major highways including Emirates Road and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road.
As part of the project, the Al Taawun Roundabout Monument was recently removed after engineers determined that its underground foundations would interfere with the tunnel's alignment.
The structure is set to be redesigned and reinstated in its original location once construction is completed.
Work affecting entrances and exits along Al Taawun Street is expected to continue for a limited period.
Another key project, Al Noor Road, which extends from Al Orooba Street and connects to Dubai through Al Nahda Bridge, is scheduled to open before the end of the year.
Directional signs will also be installed along the new routes to provide motorists with direct access to Expo Centre Sharjah and its parking facilities without interruptions.
