Abu Dhabi Public Art Biennial to Open Across Al Ain & Abu Dhabi
New public artworks and free events will explore belonging, shared spaces and community across Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
The Abu Dhabi Public Art Biennial, a citywide exhibition organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, will return for its second edition this autumn, launching in Al Ain on October 23rd before officially opening across Abu Dhabi on November 15th.
Held under the theme 'Al Dar: Qamoos Limafhoom Al Makan Al Mushtarak', the biennial will explore the idea of Al Dar as more than a physical place, examining how notions of belonging, community and shared experience shape relationships between people and the spaces they inhabit.
The programme will feature newly commissioned public artworks installed across multiple locations in Al Ain and Abu Dhabi, alongside a series of free events, talks and interactive activities open to residents and visitors. This year's edition will place a stronger emphasis on research-driven artistic practices and community engagement, with projects designed to encourage dialogue between artists and local audiences.
The upcoming biennial follows the inaugural Abu Dhabi Public Art Biennial, held across 2024 and 2025 under the theme 'Lil Aamma'. That edition brought together artists from the UAE and abroad, with several commissioned works remaining on permanent display as part of Abu Dhabi's growing public art collection.
