Al Khaleej Street Tunnel Opens Between Infinity Bridge & Deira

The Roads and Transport Authority has opened the 1.65km Al Khaleej Street Tunnel, creating a free-flow route between the end of the Infinity Bridge ramp and the intersection of Al Khaleej Street and Al Wuheida Street.

Opened on November 8th, 2026, the tunnel has three lanes in each direction and a total capacity of up to 12,000 vehicles an hour. It is intended to improve traffic flow between Infinity Bridge and Deira, while providing easier access to Al Mamzar, Abu Hail, Al Wuheida, Dubai Islands, Waterfront Market and Al Hamriya Port.

The tunnel forms part of the 13km Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project, which covers Sheikh Rashid Road, Al Mina Street, Al Khaleej Street and Cairo Street and includes upgrades to 15 intersections. Once complete, RTA expects travel time along the corridor to fall from one hour and 44 minutes to 16 minutes by 2030, serving around one million people.

Related works include replacing roundabouts on Cairo Street and Al Wuheida Street with signal-controlled intersections, improving traffic flow along Cairo Street, and connecting the bridge ramp from Dubai Islands directly to the tunnel towards Al Mamzar.

RTA is also constructing a 1,425-metre bridge across Dubai Creek between Infinity Bridge and the Port Rashid redevelopment area. The bridge will have four lanes in each direction, capacity for around 16,000 vehicles an hour, and a pedestrian and cycling track with two lifts.

Inside the new tunnel, a mosaic mural by Emirati artist Maryam Al Hathboor uses 36 million pieces to depict the Dubai skyline. RTA said 77% of excavated material, equivalent to around 522,000 cubic metres, was reused in other projects.
