Dates Facility for Global Hunger Relief Built in the UAE
The project converts dates into nutritional food products to support children and vulnerable communities facing food insecurity worldwide.
A large-scale dates processing facility aimed at supporting global hunger relief efforts is set to be developed in the United Arab Emirates under the 1 Billion Meals initiative. The project, led by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, is described as the world’s largest endowment dates factory, with a focus on producing food supplies for humanitarian distribution.
The facility is expected to produce around 150 million date-based food units each year, targeting children affected by malnutrition and communities experiencing food insecurity across multiple regions.
The initiative is designed to convert dates into a high-value nutritional product that can be deployed at scale through aid programmes, building on the crop’s longstanding role as a staple food in the UAE and the wider region.
Officials said the project forms part of broader efforts to expand food aid capacity and improve the nutritional value of distributed supplies through more structured production systems.
The facility will be developed in partnership with multiple stakeholders, with distribution focused on reaching vulnerable populations through coordinated humanitarian channels.
