Dubai’s Driverless Taxi Fleet Gets Dedicated Insurance Framework
A new insurance framework covering AI-driven and autonomous vehicle risks has been introduced for Dubai’s driverless taxi fleet.
Dubai Insurance has been appointed to insure Dubai’s autonomous taxi fleet under what is being described as the region’s first dedicated insurance framework for driverless vehicles. The framework will cover autonomous taxis operated by Dubai Taxi Company and is designed specifically for self-driving vehicles, addressing risks linked to artificial intelligence systems, sensor technologies, real-time data processing, and evolving liability structures.
The development follows the launch of commercial autonomous taxi operations by the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai earlier this year across Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah. The operations were introduced through partnerships with Apollo Go and WeRide.
According to the Roads and Transport Authority, WeRide vehicles are available through the Uber platform, while Apollo Go services operate through the Apollo Go app in cooperation with Dubai Taxi Company. The first operational phase includes 100 autonomous taxis, with expansion plans expected in the coming years.
According to the Roads and Transport Authority, the autonomous taxis operate using integrated software systems powered by artificial intelligence, high-definition digital maps, and deep learning technologies capable of processing traffic conditions and making real-time driving decisions.
