Egypt to Open Five Water Technology Schools With Italy
The applied technology schools will specialise in water resources and irrigation from the 2026/27 academic year.
Egypt's Ministry of Education and Technical Education will open five Egyptian-Italian applied technology schools specialising in water resources and irrigation during the 2026/27 academic year, expanding vocational training for the country's water sector.
The schools will be established in partnership with the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and Italy's ITSAgro Academy, with campuses located in Sharqiya, Qalyubia, Alexandria, Assiut and Minya.
Students will be able to specialise in water resources management, hydraulic structures, operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment at pumping stations, and water treatment and desalination. The programme will combine classroom learning with practical training at facilities and worksites affiliated with the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, while curricula developed with ITSAgro Academy aim to prepare graduates for local, regional and international labour markets.
According to the ministry, the initiative forms part of a broader effort to modernise technical education by aligning programmes with labour market needs and expanding partnerships with government entities and international organisations.
The announcement follows plans unveiled earlier this month to establish 26 Egyptian-Italian applied agricultural technology schools in partnership with the Future of Egypt Authority for Sustainable Development and ITSAgro Academy, offering eight agricultural specialisations across 14 governorates.
Both initiatives fall under a wider Egypt-Italy cooperation framework signed in November 2025 to establish 89 applied technology schools across industrial, agricultural and service sectors through partnerships with Egyptian ministries, national authorities, private-sector companies and Italian higher technical institutes.
