Health Ministry Plans Three New Bone Marrow Transplant Units

The Ministry of Health and Population plans to establish three new bone marrow transplant units as part of its 2026/27 investment plan, alongside 35 healthcare projects currently underway across 13 governorates.

Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar reviewed progress on equipping hospitals run by the Secretariat of Specialized Medical Centers to expand bone marrow transplant services and add new units, according to ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar.

The ministry said the programme is intended to expand access to specialised treatment and reduce waiting lists, with implementation schedules already in place for projects across the 13 governorates.

The 2026/27 investment plan includes the three transplant units and 17 other projects, while the wider programme falls under the Secretariat’s 2025 to 2030 five-year plan to increase hospital capacity and expand specialised services.

Officials also reviewed progress on major projects including the Medical City, Nile Children’s City, Gustave Roussy Hospital and Menouf Hospital. The ministry did not disclose completion rates, opening dates or the locations of the planned transplant units.

The meeting also covered the Medical Bridge initiative, which is intended to use digital technologies to improve medical coverage in border governorates, as well as plans to digitise hospitals operated by the Secretariat of Specialized Medical Centers.

The minister also instructed officials to prepare a plan to renovate and upgrade accommodation for doctors working across the Secretariat’s hospital network.
