Minimum Pension in Egypt to Rise to EGP 2,080 in January 2027

The minimum monthly pension will rise to EGP 2,080 in January 2027, up from EGP 1,755, according to National Organization for Social Insurance head Gamal Awad.

Around 380,000 pensioners currently receive the minimum pension after completing the required 15-year contribution period and paying contributions based on the minimum insured wage. Egypt has around 9.5 million pensioners in total.

Speaking during a session at Egypt Forum 2026, Awad said pension values continue to vary according to the amount and duration of contributions. He also outlined how payments for earlier retirees have increased over time, saying people who retired in 2005 with an average monthly pension of EGP 1,000 now receive around EGP 14,000.

Those who retired in 2010 with pensions of around EGP 1,000 to EGP 1,100 now receive approximately EGP 11,800, while people who retired in 2015 with an average pension of EGP 1,500 now receive around EGP 7,000.

Awad said future pension improvements will need to balance higher benefits with the financial resources available to the social insurance system.
