New Nile Delta Gas Discovery Will Add 50 Million Cubic Feet Daily

A new natural gas discovery in the Nile Delta is expected to add around 50 million cubic feet per day to domestic output following the successful drilling of the Nidoco N-2 exploratory well.

The well is located in a concession operated by Eni in partnership with BP, within the West Abu Madi development area in Kafr El Sheikh governorate.

Drilling operations were carried out using advanced directional techniques from an onshore site to reach the offshore target, helping to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency.

Positioned approximately 3 kilometres offshore in shallow waters at a depth of around 10 metres, the well lies less than 2 kilometres from existing production facilities.

This proximity is expected to allow for a rapid connection to the national network, with early production anticipated within weeks.

The concession is operated through Petrobel, a joint venture between Eni and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation.

Officials said the discovery highlights the use of nearby infrastructure to accelerate development timelines and support domestic supply.

The find comes alongside increased output from existing fields, as efforts continue to expand production capacity and optimise mature assets through extended concession agreements.

Recent settlements of outstanding payments to international partners have also contributed to increased exploration and drilling activity.

Outstanding dues to foreign partners have declined from USD 6.1 billion in June 2024 to approximately USD 714 million as of April 2026, with further reductions expected in the coming months.
