RTA Targets 5% Traffic Congestion Cut Under New AI Strategy
The Roads and Transport Authority is expanding AI across traffic, licensing, public transport and customer services.
The Roads and Transport Authority has set new targets under an updated artificial intelligence strategy, including reducing traffic congestion by 3% to 5% and cutting accidents involving newly licensed drivers by 10% to 20%.
The strategy also targets a 20% to 30% reduction in case and complaint processing times, 14% to 16% shorter waits at Customer Happiness Centres and 15% to 20% faster service delivery.
Launched by RTA Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors Mattar Al Tayer, the strategy covers 41 areas across the authority. The first two implementation waves span 11 business lines including vehicle licensing, traffic, roads, public transport, customer happiness, procurement and human resources.
Among the customer-facing changes is an upgraded Mahboub smart assistant, which can already complete five vehicle licensing services and provide around 100 information services through RTA’s app, website and WhatsApp. Integration with UAE PASS and Dubai Pay allows vehicle-related transactions to be completed in under five minutes. RTA aims to deliver 10% of services through Mahboub by the end of 2026 and 50% by the end of 2027.
An AI-enabled electronic No Objection Certificate system is also being developed to guide applicants, run preliminary checks and provide engineering insights. RTA aims to make processing three times faster, save more than 700,000 days annually and improve customer satisfaction by more than 5%, while the authority expects revenues linked to the process to increase by 5% to 10%.
For vehicle licensing, an Agentic AI Auditor is designed to make document reviews up to 21 times faster, expand checks to all records within its scope and save more than 25,000 hours of manual work each year. In public transport, an AI-powered Bus Network Planner is intended to accelerate network analysis fivefold.
