Saudi Consumer Spending Jumps 17.5% to SAR 133.9 Billion
April recorded the fastest annual growth in consumer spending since May 2021, driven by gains across sectors.
Consumer spending in Saudi Arabia rose 17.5% year-on-year in April to reach SAR 133.9 billion, marking the fastest monthly growth rate recorded since May 2021.
The increase was driven by growth across multiple spending categories, while e-commerce continued to account for a growing share of consumer activity, reaching nearly a quarter of total spending during the month.
Point-of-sale spending increased by 11.8% compared to April 2025, representing the strongest annual growth in more than two years. Point-of-sale transactions accounted for approximately 44% of total consumer spending.
Cash withdrawals from automated teller machines also increased, rising 10% year-on-year to SAR 42.4 billion. Despite the increase in withdrawals, cash represented 31.6% of total spending, remaining close to its lowest historical share.
Among spending categories, clothing and accessories recorded the fastest growth through point-of-sale devices, increasing by 48% compared to the previous year.
Consumer spending on fashion reached approximately SAR 4.4 billion during April, accounting for 7.5% of total point-of-sale spending.
Telecommunications spending also posted strong growth, rising 36% year-on-year.
The data showed that the average transaction value declined by nearly 9% to around SAR 117, while the overall number of transactions increased.
Entertainment spending continued its upward trajectory for a ninth consecutive month, rising 19% year-on-year to reach SAR 968 million in April.
