Shorouk City Allocates Land for Its First Stray Dog Shelter

A plot of land has been allocated for the construction of Shorouk City's first shelter for stray dogs as part of plans to introduce a long-term, humane approach to managing the city's stray animal population.

According to the Shorouk City Authority, the shelter will be funded and implemented by the Shorouk City Council of Trustees following approval of the land allocation.

The project will be accompanied by cooperation with Badr University, which will carry out sterilisation and vaccination programmes for stray dogs across the city. A separate agreement with an animal welfare association will allow sterilisation and vaccination efforts to begin immediately while construction of the shelter is underway.

The authority said the project responds to calls from residents to address the city's stray dog population through scientific and humane methods rather than culling. Procedures to deliver the shelter have already begun, while sterilisation and vaccination campaigns will continue until the facility becomes operational.
